Venice Studio is an annual two-week design workshop in Venice, Italy for students and recent graduates worldwide. Studios are led by established offices of architecture and urbanism known for their innovative work.

Students select the architecture firm they are interested to learn from and work closely with the architects for the duration of the program. More ‘travelling internship’ than academic class, students learn first-hand about the unique approaches, processes, research, methods and workflow utilised by each firm for the development of real-life projects inside the office.

The studio spaces are now located on St Mark’s Square - with neighbours including the Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Basilica.

The Venetian lagoon: A rich but fragile ecosystem that has long been altered by human activity.

This year Snøhetta Studio will focus on the Venetian lagoon. A rich but fragile ecosystem that has long been altered by human activity. Many of its islands, once used for defense or religion, are abandoned or now being turned into luxury resorts that overlook the lagoon's ecological value. The workshop challenges this pattern. Instead of repeating terrestrial architectural logic transplanted onto islands, we ask students to explore how design can emerge from the unique dynamics of this water-land threshold. Moving beyond consumption-based development, the workshop investigates contemplative interventions as tools for experiencing the lagoon in previously impossible ways, fostering awareness through direct phenomenological engagement with this complex ecosystem.

Applications for this year's workshop is now open. Read more and apply here.
