The Space - Jiří Kylián in conversation with Kjetil Trædal Thorsen

Wings of Time

When the Snøhetta-designed opera house in Oslo opened in 2008, the legendary Czech former dancer and contemporary dance choreographer Jiří Kylián created the inaugural performance.

Now, Kylián has returned with the Wings of Time festival, which will be held at the Norwegian National Ballet & Opera until 14 June. The festival summarizes his life's work through a parade of ballets, installations, films, and photographic art.

Throughout the festival, Kylián embraces the democratic aspects of the opera house as Snøhetta designed it: This includes performances on the roof, on the facade, behind the stage where audiences can experience new installation art, and on-stage where Kylián's choreographic heritage is performed.

Snøhetta has contributed to bringing Kylián's vision for the festival to life as well as art direction for photography by OiOiOi and the festival's graphic and visual design.

On 31 May at 17.00, Jiří Kylián and Kjetil Trædal Thorsen from Snøhetta will meet to discuss architecture, movement, and space. The conversation will take place in the foyer and will be conducted in English.

A limited number of seats are available.
