Snøhetta will present visions and ideas for how the historic Tukthuskvartalet, located in the heart of Oslo, can become a vibrant hub in the city’s future.

The quarter, bordered by Storgata, Bernt Ankers gate, Calmeyers gate, and Hammersborggata, is one of Oslo’s most central yet underutilized urban areas. It holds a history that has left its mark on the city—but also offers the opportunity to open up, reconnect, and create a new pulse at street level. How can we design inviting streets, public spaces, and meeting places in an area long defined by barriers and fragmentation?

The conversation is moderated by Trond Sundnes (First House). Torgrim Sneve Guttormsen (PhD, Senior Researcher at NIKU) will guide us through the history of Tukthuskvartalet—from the 1930s to today—and reflect on how cultural heritage influences development.

The event is hosted by SpareBank 1 Forsikring and is part of Oslo Urban Week.
