"At Snøhetta, interns are treated like any other employee in the office, which makes the experience both meaningful and motivating"
Each year, Snøhetta seeks talented students to join our studio in Oslo. Our interns work on our design teams across projects of varying scales and take part in the full range of activities and benefits offered in the workplace. All internships with us are paid positions.

I have several favorite projects, but the most memorable one for me so far is the Düsseldorf Opera House, as it was the first project I worked on in the office
Jason Lee (23) Architecture Intern, from Canada
Why did you apply for an internship?
I've been drawn to the firm since architecture school. I was especially interested in its clear design ideas and the way its work connects thoughtfully with Norwegian nature. That balance between architecture and landscape really resonated with me and, along with my admiration for Norway, inspired me to apply for an internship at Snøhetta.
What did you know about the studio before you started?
I knew Snøhetta as a well-known architecture firm that has designed many important institutional projects across Canada. What stood out to me was its focus on democratic and accessible architecture, creating spaces that are open, welcoming, and meant for everyone to use and enjoy.
What did you expect before starting?
Before starting, I saw Snøhetta as a firm on a higher plane … almost like a luxury brand. But once I joined, I realized how humble and down-to-earth the firm truly is, which was both refreshing and inspiring.
How was your first day at the office?
I remember being surprised by how big the office felt compared to the photos. Everyone were incredibly friendly and kind, and I immediately felt supported and welcomed in every way.
What have been the highlights?
One of the best things I got to do was help with the Christmas party, I had so much fun figuring out how to transform the office into something completely unrecognizable from everyday life. Another huge highlight is the intern community. We have been on several chaotic and memorable trips together, including a cabin trip to Lillehammer.
What's your favorite project so far?
I have several favorite projects, but the most memorable one for me so far is the Düsseldorf Opera House, as it was the first project I worked on in the office. Starting my time at Snøhetta on that project made it especially meaningful.
How did you experience moving to Norway?
Moving to Norway was extremely fun. There is so much nature to explore and experience, all just a train ride away. One of my favorite things has been discovering the landscape and spending time outdoors. I would also highly recommend sailing if you ever come to Norway, the views out over the fjords are beautiful and unforgettable.
Do you recommend internship at Snøhetta to others?
YES, absolutely! Especially if you're coming from a non-Scandinavian country, it's a completely different experience and a real eye-opener to architecture. In many places, firms are underpaid and interns aren't always treated with respect. At Snøhetta, interns are treated like any other employee in the office, which makes the experience both meaningful and motivating.

This has given me endless opportunities to learn, speak up in team and client meetings, and encouraged me to really back myself
Molly Jones (23) Climate Design Intern, from UK
Why did you apply for internship at Snøhetta?
Unique job listing, mixing sustainability with my passion for design and construction. The role is a driving force for change in the industry, with the opportunity to maximize impact due to scale of Snøhetta projects and their open-minded clientele. I admired projects such as Vertikal Nydalen and the Theodoore Roosevelt Library where innovation was at the forefront of sustainable design, and I wanted to contribute to that!
What did you know about Snøhetta from before?
I was inspired by Snøhettas commitment to transpositioning - where team members break outside the typical boundaries of their discipline and seek to switch perspectives with others. This was something I felt very connected to with a background in Architecture and Engineering, and I was eager to try this in practice.
What did you expect before starting?
I actually expected to be a direct helper to my team lead Marta! The reality is very different, and I am given full independence on all projects so that our skills can be spread over as many projects as possible in the studio. Of course she is always there to advise me and guide me through it all. This has given me endless opportunities to learn, speak up in team and client meetings, and encouraged me to really back myself.
How was your first day at the office?
Lots of nerves but so excited to meet everyone I had met in interview in person. On the first day we were greeted outside, before sitting down with coffee and ‘bolle’ in a small group to get to know each other better. We were introduced to our teams and started a weeklong introduction program which introduced us to all the disciplines around the office. I always felt like I had someone I could talk to about anything. Lots of friendly smiles, greetings and enlightening conversations by the coffee machine, which still happens four months in!
What's the best thing about being an intern?
The best thing about working at Snøhetta is the talented people you are surrounded by every day. Everyone is there to listen to you - no matter their level of experience, with a shared ambition for innovative, holistic design.
What's your favorite project so far?
I have been lucky to have worked on a great range of project experience so far in hospitality, leisure, hospitals, residential, exhibitions and masterplans in six different countries! Every project has been a unique challenge to adapt to, comparing different climates, passive design principles and uses to get the most sustainable outcome. My favorite project must be a hospitality project in Turkey, where we have introduced a reduce first approach, limiting excavation, whole life carbon, and biodiversity loss and using this as a design driver.
How did you experience moving to Norway?
I am loving the work life balance here, the priority given to outdoor activities (even in the dark and -15), and just how much there is to do for free! Best memory- bringing in 2026 watching fireworks all over the fjord just as the first few flakes of snow began to fall!

I applied because I wanted to gain experience and develop myself as a designer before my diploma. At Snøhetta I saw an opportunity to work on a broad range of projects and was especially interested in their approach to innovation and material exploration.
What did you know about Snøhetta?
I was familiar with a lot of their work and have been following them for a while. It feels like a big organization, but when you walk in the door you enter a creative space with a lot of nice and talented people. It was very disarming to see how they work and who they are.
