Le Rosey Boarding School Gstaad
Vernacular architecture meets modern school concepts

2021–

Architecture

Introduction

Since 2021 Snøhetta has been involved in developing concepts for the winter campus of the Le Rosey boarding school in Gstaad, Switzerland. After a competitive quality assurance process, we and our Swiss partners Jaggi & Partner from Gstaad were commissioned to further develop and realize the project.

The concept for the campus ensemble is inspired by the vernacular architecture of Gstaad. The design attempts to integrate the strict design guidelines of the municipality and yet develop an independent design language. The educational building is structured in elongated segments and accompanied by a cultural building open to the public. The transparent façade offers insights into the school activities and a new public square creates a vibrant open space that connects the educational and the cultural building.
