The NSW Independent Planning Commission has now approved the public domain works for Sydney’s Harbourside redevelopment, marking a major milestone for the project by Snøhetta in collaboration with Hassell.

The proposal reimagines the waterfront at Tumbalong / Darling Harbour with over 11,200m² of re-imagined public space, including significant trees, planted areas, sculptural sandstone pathways, and public artworks. Integral cultural narratives that honour and reflect the layered histories of Gadigal and Wangal Country are at the heart of this place, informed by the expertise and research of Indigenous planting experts, Jiwah and cultural research and design led thinking of Djinjama.

Designed as a generous civic gesture, this important planning aims to reconnect people to place through a landscape-led approach that prioritises gathering, storytelling, and ecological repair. The works form part of the broader transformation of the Harbourside precinct. Landscape design by Snøhetta is celebrated as a key driver in the project’s vision.

Congratulations to the whole Harbourside team, and especially the landscape team who have worked tirelessly to achieve this significant milestone!
