Snøhetta through to next level of Grieg Quarter competition in Bergen

The two-stage competition, organized by the Norwegian Architects' National Association, seeks proposals for a new landmark concert venue in Edvard Grieg's Place in the centre of Bergen. The Griegkvartalet project is part of a planned new cultural quarter development, with the new concert hall operating alongside the existing Grieghallen.

Five architectural and consulting teams are competing to design the new musical theatre - Henning Larsen Architects, Mad Vest, Nordic Office of Architecture, Zaha Hadid Architects - and Snøhetta. An exhibition of the five finalists' proposals recently opened in the Grieghallen foyer, but the competition is anonymous until the next stage.

The jury will announce which three among the five groups that will advance to the final later in January. In the final phase, negotiations will be held with the three relevant groups. The final winner of the planning and design competition will be announced in March.
