West End Waterfront Master Plan
A reimagining for Vancouver's iconic park
Intro
Snøhetta is engaged in reimagining Vancouver’s West End Waterfront; a much loved 80-acre park with a continuous seaside greenway, expansive beaches, and bicycle paths with views of English Bay and the Salish Sea beyond. Early dialogue with the community, local stakeholders, and First Nations representation allowed decolonization and reconciliation to frame the design process for the park and its future use.
Technical details
Together with our partner PFS Studio, we have developed three strategies— Seed, Weave, and Carve—which differ in their approach to program distribution, engagement with the waterfront, and ecological restoration. The public is now evaluating these approaches, which will be refined and combined in the next phase of the planning process. The ultimate buildout of the park is conceived of as a 30-year project.
